It is still too early in the year to list the true Preakness Stakes contenders, but as soon as the field begins to take shape, you can be sure that will have you covered!

The 2015 Preakness Stakes will run on Saturday, May 16th, 2015 from Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore, Maryland. It will be accompanied by the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes as well, which is a race for three-year-old fillies.

Eligibility for the Preakness Stakes is determined by earnings in previous races, not by points like the Kentucky Derby. Horses do not need to contend in the derby to race at the Preakness either. The field is capped at 14 horses.

As usual, the winner of the Kentucky Derby will be one of the early contenders even though this race runs just two weeks after the epic at Churchill Downs.

One contender that is already making noise is Jess’s Dream since he is the son of Rachel Alexandra, one of three fillies to win the Preakness, and Curlin, who also won the Preakness Stakes. No horse has ever had two parents who have won this race, so Jess’s Dream will be making history simply by leaving the gate.

We will keep all race fans up-to-date as we march towards the Preakness Stakes, with news and results concerning all contenders for the Second Jewel of the Triple Crown.
